Greenup Santa Gertrudis recently acquired the Eidsvold Station breeding herd. The
merger has meant that in 2008 we are breeding 3500 purebred Santa Gertrudis, of
which over 2500 are registered females, with a total herd in excess of 5000
head. For you this means we will be
putting more pressure on the cattle to push genetic gains and can offer you more
bulls with the traits you want with the high standards that you’ve come to
expect from Greenup Eidsvold Station bulls. Eidsvold Stations' breeding philosophy and breeder management complements that of Greenup Santa Gertrudis. Both studs aim to breed cattle that are easy care, fertile cows that exhibit doing ability, and produce bulls and steers with excellent muscling and the ability to thrive in all conditions from tough droughts in extensive rangelands and forests through to the feedlot. Rick and Alice intend to retain the integrity of the Eidsvold Station reputation by adhering to the high standards set by Anthony & Sally and their predecessors Barney & Joan Joyce.. Performance recording is an integral component on the Eidsvold Station herd. The Bulls: Both studs breed their bulls under extensive forest rangeland conditions expect their animals to achieve good muscling, extremely high weight gains with even fat cover at the commercial end, while demonstrating fertility and constitution under the tough, extreme, harsh conditions that Greenup-Eidsvold Santas thrive in. The Cows: Both studs focus on traits that are economically important, producing optimum amounts of red meat underpinned with fertility, structural soundness and doing ability. Females must calve down unassisted, with ease, give their progeny adequate milk to grow while retaining sufficient energy to rebreed every year.
