Eidsvold Station Bulls Sell Under the Hammer for the First Time
Two
of Queensland's
leading studs have merged to form an unprecedented powerhouse of Santa
Gertrudis genetics underpinned with real commercial understanding.
The
Greenup Eidsvold Station Santas are being sold as a single entity for the first
time at the GDL Blackall Invitation Sale. The
draft represents an impressive line up of twenty-two bulls, bred and raised on
forest country, ready to work.

Rick
Greenup has selected a draft of bulls that will suit a variety of herds and
breeding females.
“There
is something there for the bullock and steers breeders and some younger bulls,
for those wishing to get in and mate their young heifers.
I am really happy with the growth and finishing ability these bulls are
showing.” Mr Greenup said.
Mr Greenup said most of the Santa bulls are registered pure-breds and are
eligible to be presented for classification and all have passed a semen
morphology test. Further
information on the draft of bulls, the studs and herd management can be found at
www.greenup.com.au
“We
expect our bulls to breed progeny with good muscling, extremely high weight
gains and even fat cover at the commercial end, while demonstrating fertility
and constitution,” he said.
Greenup & Eidsvold Santa Gertrudis are members of Santa Gertrudis Group
Breedplan. Pedigree and
registration details, and Breedplan figures can be reviewed at
www.santagertrudis.com.au.
Greenup
Santa Gertrudis acquired the Eidsvold Station herd in 2006.
The combined studs breed 2500 cows consisting of 1500 registered stud
cows and 1000 unregistered purebred cows, running 5500 head of Santa Gertrudis
across 65,000 acres of forest and scrub country.
Greenup Eidsvold Station sells 500 bulls annually which are selected
after a rigorous culling program, having passed Rick Greenup’s criteria for
temperament, fertility, structure and growth.
Both studs are renowned for breeding easy care,
fertile cows that exhibit doing ability, and producing bulls and steers with
excellent muscling and the ability to thrive in all conditions from harsh
extensive rangelands through to exceptional performance on pasture and in
feedlots.
When it comes to breeder herd management they focus on traits that are
economically important, producing optimum amounts of red meat underpinned with
fertility, structural soundness and constitution. Females must return a
positive preg-test after a three month mating period, calve down unassisted with
ease, and give their progeny adequate milk to grow while retaining sufficient
energy to rebreed every year.
This is a balanced line of bulls that will impress the astute cattleman.
Greenup
& Eidsvold Santa Gertrudis are members of the Santa Gertrudis Association
Group Breedplan. Pedigree and registration
details, Breed Index values, EBVs, percentile bands and explanations can be
reviewed on the Santa Gertrudis Breeders Website www.santagertrudis.com.au.
